Currently, riot is rewarding players with honor level orbs. Those rewards from opening those orbs are super underwhelming. it's time gated, each checkpoint takes at least 17 days and typically a little longer than that. I also think it's longer for checkpoints under level 2. I play a couple of times a week. You don't have to play daily. You just need to get enough honors within the set time period to progress. It's at least 20 days.
If you truly are reformed and play enough games daily, I am confident that you should be able to easily reach honor level 2 with the time you have left until the split end. The last time I was chat restricted, I managed to unlock my honor and reach honor level 2 within a month of being punished. You still have 4 months until Split 1 ends.
These orbs will continue to unlock even after reaching the maximum Honor cap of level 5. The League of Legends Honor system will also undergo a complete reset when the new season begins next year
After you're level 3, all you need to do is earn honor from two premade teammates or with a stranger in a game and a loading screen flair will unlock for your next match. In order to unlock loading screen flairs, it's all about being positive, friendly, and doing the very best you can in your respective role to earn honor.

This just shows: if you play daily, then it takes 14 days for 1 honor checkpoint. Has always been like that, ever since everyone leveled up together when it was introduced. If you wanna make it quickly I suggest you turn off allied and all chat from the game settings for a couple of weeks.
Yes, you can drop a level in Honor, but only if you receive a penalty. For example, if you receive a chat restriction and your honor level is 2, then your Honor level will go down to 1. If you're at level 1, then it will go down to level 0. A two-week suspension is going to drop your honor level to 0.
